  • The name of Captain Gil's ship, the USS Minnow, could be an homage to the SS Minnow, the name of the boat that strands the survivors on Gilligan's Island.
  • Major Bummer being a frail creature under a powerful suit of armor is likely a reference to Darth Vader of Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983).
  • Mr. Smarts is an obvious homage to Mr. Spock from Star Trek. They even have the same haircut!
  • The elevated corridor that the crew runs through to escape the Lobster Bot army on the Galactic Bubble Station is identical to a similar corridor on the Death Star in the original Star Wars Trilogy (Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi).
  • The idea of music taming angry robots/cyborgs and turning them good is very similar to the Michael Jackson 3D sci-fi movie Captain EO.
